Wounds

Wound around the wounds

Life inflicts upon us

Can be tender kindness

If we allow it.

Do not lash out

Stay the defensive urge

Accept the offered hand

Do not fear vulnerability.

Rest in other’s decency

Heal nurtured by love

Accept you aren’t alone.

For dVerse’s quadrille challenge hosted by Lillian. Aim is to write a poem of 44 words that uses both meanings of ‘wound’.

Check out the challenge here.

Waterfall

Rapidly coursing

Precipice reached pause then plunge

Rock strewn roaring crash

A haiku for Ronovans challenge plunge and rapid are the key words. This evokes memories of waterfalls.

Clematis

A host of green buds

Potential beauty cocooned

Heralding summer

Time is close for bursting forth

Petals of white purity

For Tuesday Tanka challenge – a flower that has meaning to me is my clematis – when it’s ripe with buds it tells me summer is not far away.

Not thrilling but compelling

Way easily lost

Comforting melancholy

Erodes will spends energy

This

Darkness comes but it also goes,

I know this.

What arises always ceases,

I believe this.

Chaotic thought calms and settles,

I endure this.

Grasping tightly finds release,

I feel this.

Sky once oppressive

Becomes spacious,

This infinite expanse.

Mood brightens,

Perception shifts,

I’m grateful for this.

Dissipating Stress

Weariness gives way

Simple tiredness holds sway

Dissipating stress

Shoulders draw away from neck

Jaw releases it’s tight grip

Ruminating

Ruminating

Often it comes

Attempts at self mastery

The Wise can settle

Into the cacophony within

Grasp released

Annihilation ambition put down

In favour of restful awareness

Watching…

Anxiety’s apprehension

Recognising….

Melancholy’s malaise

Realising…

Doubt’s discomfort

Knowing their transience

How they dissolve when left alone

How they grow and morph when probed

Yes I am pondering

Why I secretly covet misery

Fearful of peace

if you have an hour this fine buddhist Teacher is worth it.

Dilapidated

Dilapidated, in need of renovation.

Decades have passed.

Neglected, needs unmet.

Degradation continues unabated.

Pivot point is reached.

Renovation promises unfulfilled.

All that’s left is demolition.

Land wiped clear.

New purpose undefined.

But potential sits,

In brooding vacancy.

Knowing progress is uncontainable.

Freeze Haiku

BANG Metal constricting
Warmth's energy dissipates
Permeating Freeze

I have discovered it is National Poetry Writing Month (April 2021). So although a few days late going to join in the challenge. I have joined on day 3 where the challenge is to create a Personal Universal Deck and write a poem inspired by it – the challenge site for seeking inspiration is here, although you could just commit to writing a poem a day for the remainder of the month of April. It is up to you!

Here is mine based on the card I pulled which was “Bang”. This made me think how I finally defrosted the freezer yesterday (yes very domesticated) and as it cooled the elements were making some terrific bangs!

Ageing Petals

Ageing petals

Brown edged

Dessicating

Stalks mouldy

But just a hint

Of better days.

Spent bouquet

Still standing upright

In fermenting water

Once fresh and bright

Full of optimism

Brought a smile

Now speak of decay

March of time

All changes

Life degrades

At least we gain

Experience…
