Crown of Roses

To wear a crown of roses,

Is a fragrant thing.

Others sigh at its beauty,

But do not feel the thorns.

Time makes its petals drop,

The perfume is no more.

Exposed are the wounds,

Sore lesions, deep scratches.

Lay it down you fool.

For the dVerse quadrille #141 ‘Crown’ check it out here.

Loss

Loss overwhelms the soul.

A matriarch ageing,

A patriarch gone,

Sanctuary eroding.

How relentless is time.

Tearing at stability.

Can hope be found,

In amongst the rubble?

Change

Knowing enough is enough,

Begins with believing you are enough.

*

When fertile ground becomes barren,

Pastures are spent,

What was full has emptied;

*

Freezing in place is unsound!

Find a peace in movement.

*

Ride out the regret,

Face down the sadness,

Accept that all things change;

*

Turn from victimhood,

Find a hero’s grace.

Wounds

Wound around the wounds

Life inflicts upon us

Can be tender kindness

If we allow it.

Do not lash out

Stay the defensive urge

Accept the offered hand

Do not fear vulnerability.

Rest in other’s decency

Heal nurtured by love

Accept you aren’t alone.

For dVerse’s quadrille challenge hosted by Lillian. Aim is to write a poem of 44 words that uses both meanings of ‘wound’.

Check out the challenge here.

Rapidly coursing

Precipice reached pause then plunge

Rock strewn roaring crash

Clematis

A host of green buds

Potential beauty cocooned

Heralding summer

Time is close for bursting forth

Petals of white purity

For Tuesday Tanka challenge – a flower that has meaning to me is my clematis – when it’s ripe with buds it tells me summer is not far away.

This

Darkness comes but it also goes,

I know this.

What arises always ceases,

I believe this.

Chaotic thought calms and settles,

I endure this.

Grasping tightly finds release,

I feel this.

Sky once oppressive

Becomes spacious,

This infinite expanse.

Mood brightens,

Perception shifts,

I’m grateful for this.

Dissipating Stress

Weariness gives way

Simple tiredness holds sway

Dissipating stress

Shoulders draw away from neck

Jaw releases it’s tight grip

Ruminating

Ruminating

Often it comes

Attempts at self mastery

The Wise can settle

Into the cacophony within

Grasp released

Annihilation ambition put down

In favour of restful awareness

Watching…

Anxiety’s apprehension

Recognising….

Melancholy’s malaise

Realising…

Doubt’s discomfort

Knowing their transience

How they dissolve when left alone

How they grow and morph when probed

Yes I am pondering

Why I secretly covet misery

Fearful of peace
