Restraint

Greed is the root;

It is said.

Of everything evil,

With which we are fed.

Nowadays our table,

Is overflowing.

So it’s easy to gorge,

When wealth is growing.

But I think we lost,

Along the way,

The route to good,

The voice to say;

That just because,

We know we can,

Sometimes it’s best to,

Impose a ban.

Nurture our restraint,

Impulses reigned,

Even though, we might not now,

Appreciate what’s gained.
